about
FIRE WORSHIP explores two correlated narratives across its 10 compositions. Side A follows the departure of a fallen idol's soul and its journey from the mortal body to purification and eventual ascendancy; side B observes the concurrent ceremonial rites performed by a community left behind. Corrupted by a lifetime among the physical world, only by ritual cleansing of the corporeal remains through a series of sacred flames can it rejoin the elemental sphere.
It should be noted that while FIRE WORSHIP does not altogether illustrate the practices of one singular religion, it indeed weaves legitimate, pancultural traditions of the deification, sanctification, and symbology of flame into its greater creative whole. As ever, the works released by MONS are the product of great and laborious study, a necessary precedent to informed creative expression.
Sonically, Mons conjures its trademark fusion of Eastern rhythmic and tonal flavors in commemoration of and adherence to ancient mystic practices. FIRE WORSHIP blends classic ambient, electronic, concert, and ritual musics with modern sampling, avant-garde, turntablism and field recording manipulation to generate something altogether unique.
